The blades for the runners are manufactured locally at a laser shop out of stainless steel and cut out complete. We use a small metal cutting band saw and a drill press for the other metal parts. I know of 2 people who used a saws-all and a hand drill. Another one used an abrasive cutoff saw. For the cables, we buy cable from the local hardware store and cable ferrules for garage door cables. The rod ends are from a local bearing supplier. The bolts, screws and wood all come from one of our local home improvement stores (which ever one is having a sale).

I want to icesail, but the steering device, blades and mount for the mast appear to be daunting problems.

We do sell the more complicated parts at very reasonable prices, but most all of the parts are very simple to manufacture with nothing more than a hacksaw and a drill. The Yoke (steering device) does have some welding. The rudder pedals were redesigned to be made either by welding or bolting them together. The Blades for the runners do take a bit more to make. If you make them from mild steel they can be cut out with a metal cutting band saw or torch for that matter and belt sanded to shape. The mast step is nothing more than 2 pieces of angle iron and should not be a concern either.
